DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A BOSTON SCORE VOLUNTEER?

Before you answer, you probably want to know more about us. For openers, the Boston Chapter of SCORE is the biggest and busiest in New England. We are a team of over 50 men and women who derive a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction helping people improve their lives through business counseling toward success. Our mission is to assist those currently running or starting a small business, or even sketch out a reality check for those with a “great idea”. We’re all volunteers whose only compensation is the ultimate success of our clients.

We are currently accepting applications from business people who would compliment our existing counselor team, but now it’s your turn to answer some pertinent questions.

• Do you have a successful business background that could help a budding entrepreneur down the road to success?
• Do you have the ability and temperament to teach people what you have learned about business throughout your career?
• Can you volunteer 4-6 days per month?
• Do you want to join a team of friendly and interesting people?
• Not a requirement, but it would be a bonus if you are bilingual in any one of the dominant foreign languages in the Greater Boston area.

If your answers are affirmative and you are interested in contributing to the community by participating in SCORE, here’s the drill:

• Complete up to ten co-counseling sessions with SCORE clients and learn the various procedures and report processes.
• Be a working member of at least one committee that will be selected by the Chapter Chair according to your skills and interest.
• Be willing to do some of your counseling on a regular basis at one of our Greater Boston satellite offices.
• Attend bi-monthly meetings which serve somewhat as a training function to keep us all current both technologically and with new business practices.

Now it’s your turn to act! But two caveats before you do the deed…do not expect any sort of financial gain or consider the counselors as a pool of prospects.
